Pritt Stick | Knutselwereld - Best Dutch advergame 2010

Yesterday I visited 'Game in the City' in Amersfoort (The Netherlands). I held a short presentation in the morning how games can be used as a marketing tool and after my presentation there where three case presentations by Flavour, Real & Soepel and Achtung!

During the day there where various presentations about games, serious games (I hate that term), social games (that one as well) and a lot of companies presentation their cool innovative products.

In the evening there was a dinner organized by Control-Online (sponsored by ABN AMRO) when the Dutch Game Awards were presented.

Little Chicken won the prize for best advergame. I also described this case in my book. It's really a fantastic gameconcept and well executed.

Below you will find another short impression of the award ceremony.

Bubble gum game at Game in the city

An incredible original game by students from Breda (The Netherlands) during Game in the City in Amersfoort. My best friend and collegue from Spilgames played the game while I was filming and impersonating Yoda...

Loads of opportunity for ingame advertising and branded content here!

Gorillaz - Escape to Plastic Beach: The Game (iPhone + iPad app)

Game for iPhone and iPad to promote the new Gorillaz album. Basically the cool characters always looked like game heroes, so no surprise there. The only thing I don't get is why we can't play with the music?
Why not use your multitrack and facilitate consumers to create remixes bases on the beats, basslines, chords and vocals!?

Why don't you use the brandessence of what you are? A cool innovative brand.

My associations with this band are merely graffiti, art, urban style... and not a hang-gliding guy that shoots on flying targets above the sea....?

Virgin Games - McDonald Land - 1992

And another classic - US only I think... McDonald Land...

Pepsi Invaders Advergame - The first advergame ever!

This is probably the first advergame ever... originally on Atari 2600 I believe.
Great mocking by Coca-Cola towards Pepsi. I wonder when Pepsi will strike back?

Call me if you want some great ideas! ;-)

Burger King Games

Burger King actually sold advergames for a little under 5 bucks in 2008 for Xbox... We are talking about games that contain ingame branding by Burger King... ! They were sold out.

Snoop Dogg with a light saber, before enjoying the soccer WC match... in Star Wars? What does this have to do with Adidas?

It's fun though...

Interactive movie for energy consciousness

Check out this interactive thriller about the future of our politics around energy. It's a nice conspiracy story - if you have all Sunday (and enough interest in the future of the world's existence ;-)

It's quite intriguing and technically well done! There are some mini-games you can play, but as with most of these 'interactive films' the mini-games do not add great value to the experience and are not all that relevant - unfortunately.

Submarine must have gotten a decent budget to build this - it looks amazing, behaves really well and the sounds design is great.

Check www.collapsus.com you really should!

A game to promote music by Noisia

A very cool minigame to promote the latest song 'Machine Gun' by Noisia. This electronic rock really gives a good pumping vibe that helps to play through the game.
Check it out here if your like.

Moorhuhn - on of the first PC advergames, now over 35 products!

One of the first advergames I can remember was programmed ten years ago and was called 'Moorhuhn', a game to promote a Whiskey label.

Know Moorhuhn?

Was it one of the winners who received a CD with the game or even a member of the promotions team – up to today it is unclear how the Moorhuhn escaped. Fact is that it wasn't planned.

Whether by Email or as download from private websites the Moorhuhn started its conquest of a growing fan community. Even on floppy discs the chicken got multiplied – for the benefit of those people that weren't part of this phenomenon called internet yet.

Like a virus...

Like a virus the little game spread on German PC's and also beyond the country's borders (in The Netherlands it was a huge success). The advertising industry cites the Moorhuhn as the most successful example of viral marketing; some even claim it was the first viral marketing campaign ever.

The media quickly adopted the game and spun competitions and events around it which resulted in groaning or even collapsing download servers.

The downloads hosted by well known providers numbered in the millions, the unknown number of privately passed on games most likely ranges far higher and the number of killed virtual fowl is certainly beyond count.

The success of the game was in fact so profound that in 2002 research showed that 84% of all Germans knew the Moorhuhn. A representative market research in 2008 with focus on gamers determined that 98% of all German gamers know the chicken.

Right now the Moorhuhn franchise has grown to over 35 titles in ten years. If people still doubt whether advergaming is interesting... have them call me!

More information about the history of the game can be found here

Nuon Solar Challenge

Nuon Solar Challenge

The Nuon solar Challenge, a nice extension of the real race, not too realistic to be honest...

I didn't know a road could be that linear!

With more budget I am sure it could have become more remarkable and notable.

Too bad.
